Sealy's first attempt to score from the ball played in by Jack Jewsbury inside the area in the 87th minute was blocked by a Colorado defender. But Sealy, who entered the game as a substitute in the 71st minute for Ivan Trujillo, got his left foot on a loose ball that traveled ever so slowly past Colorado goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul.
The Wizards held off the Rapids for the remaining regular time plus four minutes of stoppage time to secure the victory.
Kansas City took a two-goal lead with goals off the head of Jimmy Conrad.
The goals by Conrad came two minutes apart and both were delivered by Carlos Marinelli. The first, in the 52nd minute, came from a free kick won by substitute Kurt Morsink about 35 yards from goal on the right wing.
Marinelli delivered a flighted ball that headed into the net from near the penalty spot. The Wizards won a corner a short time later and Marinelli found Conrad again, this time just outside the six-yard box.
But the Rapids pressed immediately to get back into the game. Former Wizard Jose Burciaga Jr. scored in the left side of the penalty area in the 57th minute. Then John DiRaimondo scored in the aftermath of a corner kick to tie the game in the 68th minute.
Colorado took the play to the Wizards in the first 23 minutes.
The Rapids had a corner kick in the first minute of the game and Omar Cummings, the Rapids' lone forward in a 4-5-1, had his shot blocked over the crossbar. In the second minute, Burciaga's left-footed drive from 30 yards skipped dangerously, but directly, to Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.
The Rapids shot wide on another corner kick in the fifth minute. Then Christian Gomez tried to chip Hartman from an acute angle in the left side of the area in the 11th minute.
Two minutes later, the Wizards were a little sloppy in the back and Hartman was forced to deal with a long ball played from the Rapids end, knocking it away outside his area.
The Wizards put together some nice offensive combinations toward the end of the first half, but Coundoul was in command of the penalty area in the first half.
