Wizards win road debut in Chicago

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Jack Jewbury scored a fourth-minute goal then helped his teammates make it hold up in a 1-0 victory Saturday over the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park.

Claudio Lopez spotted Jewsbury running through the middle of the Fire defense and played a perfect ball from the left side of midfield. Jewsbury beat Fire goalkeeper Jon Busch to the ball near top of the penalty area, chested it down and shot into an empty net for his second goal of the season.

Jewsbury has had a hand in four of the Wizards' seven goals in the first five games (two goals, two assists).

The Fire had plenty of opportunities to equalize. Forward Chad Barrett had the right side of the Kansas City goal to himself from about eight yards out, but sent Gonzalo Seagares' cross from the left over the bar in the 40th minute.

Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman did, though, have to come up with some good saves to keep his third clean sheet of the season and second in as many games.

Hartman saved Barrett's shot in the 33rd minute, then a defender deflected John Thorrington's follow-up shot. Soon after that, Thorrington crossed across the face of the goal, but just behind Tomas Frankowski, who tried an overhead kick that went wide left. Cuauhtemoc Blanco than fired two shots that Hartman saved.

The Wizards had chances to double the lead in the second half. Substitute Sasha Victorine had shot saved by Busch in the 64th minute. Tyson Wahl banged a shot off the left post in the 66th minute in the aftermath of a corner kick.
